Using Hypnotic Language for Influence

The use of hypnotic language is not the traditional hypnotic practice where one has to close his eyes and then goes to a trance under the influence of the hypnotist. It is a modern day innovation, in which you convince your client through the power of language alone instead of with any formal kind of Hypnotic/NLP process.

There is frequently a question that arises when teaching hypnotic language patterns- is it manipulation? The answer to this question is that most good and useful things in life can be abused. If you are using hypnotic language to try to get someone to do something that is not in their best interests then it is manipulation. But if it is in their best interest to be influenced then that is called persuasion.

Hypnotic language works for 3 major reasons:

Confusion

Often hypnotic language does not conform to the usual English sentence structure. Logically it doesn’t make sense. But it doesn’t have to make sense because the unconscious mind doesn’t work in a logical way. Therefore the unconscious mind (where we want changes and effects to be made) can unravel the deeper meaning in a sentence such as “So when you have decided, you know what you want already you’re ready to sign on the line now.

Light to medium trance

If you are using conversational hypnosis or covert hypnosis it will not be practical to use any kind of formal trance induction. Instead you can use the speed of your voice (slowing it down) and the pitch of your voice (deepening it especially for key words or phrases which need to be embedded by using extra emphasis.)

Delivery

Even though what you are saying doesn’t make an ounce of sense, the congruence and certainty in your voice will carry it off for you. If you think about it, we are more influenced by tone of voice than words and even more so by body language (hence the saying “actions speak louder than words.”) So your tone of voice and body language all have to be behaving as if you have just said something totally normal and conversational. If your body language tells them that you’re unsure they will probably pick up on the errors in your sentence structure.
